Preview of the “T-Mobile New Year’s at the Needle” fireworks show


Crews from Pyro Spectaculars and the Space Needle work to install several thousand pyrotechnic shots used to create the upcoming “T-Mobile New Year’s at the Needle” fireworks display Monday, Dec. 30, 2013, at the top of the Space Needle in Seattle. Garden d’Lights at the Bellevue Botanical Garden


Over 500,000 lights transformed the Bellevue Botanical Garden into a blossoming winter wonderland of three dimensional flowers, shrubs, vines and animals at the annual Garden d’Lights Thursday, Dec. 26, 2013, in Bellevue. Hundreds of volunteers worked year round to bring the visual feast to light. Open from 5 PM to 10 PM every evening for a fee of five dollars, the outdoor installation concludes on January 4, 2014. Wah Mee massacre site burns in Seattle's International District


An estimated 90 firefighters battled a two-alarm blaze that began around 4 PM Tuesday, Dec. 24, 2013, at 669 South King Street in Seattle. The cause of the fire is still unknown and continues to be considered "out of control." Shortly after 8 PM, firefighters reduced it to a one alarm response, but officials stated personnel would be stationed throughout the night. The American Red Cross was called to assist at least 22 displaced residents. The building was the site of the 1983 Wah Mee massacre, in which 13 people were killed in a robbery at the Wah Mee gambling club. (Jordan Stead, seattlepi.com)

Snoqualmie Falls, freezing over


The cold wave in Western Washington reduced Snoqualmie Falls to some world-class icicles Monday, Dec. 9, 2013, in Snoqualmie. The cold temperatures are expected to moderate through the week. Officials at Puget Sound Energy say icy conditions such as these occur about once a year. The conditions have not stopped or hurt power production of the hydroelectric plant at the falls.
