Seattle and University of Washington police have one in custody after a four-hour standoff with a man in a trailer on the UW campus Monday, March 31, 2014, in Seattle, Wash. The incident began about 12:30 p.m. and a man surrendered to SWAT officers shortly before 4:30 p.m. Seattle police report a man barricaded himself at Eighth Avenue Northeast and Northeast Northlake Place. Streets in the area were closed and two bus routes were rerouted. UW police received a report just before noon that a man damaged a telephone pole outside a UW lecture hall with a baseball bat, according to Seattle police. When the campus police responded, the man reportedly pepper sprayed an officer and shut himself inside a small trailer hitched to a pickup truck down the street. Seattle police sent negotiators and SWAT to the scene, who spent hours communicating with the man. He demanded to speak with state legislators and refused to leave the trailer. Police believed the man had other weapons inside the trailer and closed off pedestrian traffic on the University Bridge and several streets between Sixth and Eighth avenues along Northlake Place.
